First Things First

Welcome to my new website. There are a few tweaks still needed here and there, but whilst I work on those I can at least say hello to you all and introduce myself.
I'm Keith Schofield. I'm in my mid 50s, married to my wife Sue for over 25 years. We have two grown up sons, one in his late teens still living at home with us here in the north west of England and looking to go off to university later this year, the other in his mid 20s living and working in Birmingham having completed his master's degree at university there last year.
I worked as a scientific engineer for many years, providing consultation, commissioning and calibration services for some of the biggest science companies in the world. I helped write, proof and translate lots of technical papers, documents and manuals, and travelled extensively around the UK and Europe in the course of my work.
Throughout that period I also contributed countless news articles and opinion pieces on many different subjects to various online and print media outlets. Writing, as well as reading other people's writing, has always been a passion of mine.
A Change of Direction
A couple of years ago I received some personal news that would immediately change the course of my life (perhaps I'll talk about that a little more in a future blog). It lead to me quitting my job and eventually turning to writing and proofreading full time from home.
I now spend my days browsing customers' websites, researching material and writing copy for web pages and blog posts, proofreading and editing documents, and talking to clients to best gauge what they are looking for in their relationship with me.
I want to build long term, trusting partnerships with all my clients. It's in all our interests that I provide a great service for them.
Out of Office
Away from work I've always been a pretty active bloke, notwithstanding a few extra challenges in the last couple of years.
I played a lot of semi professional soccer back in my 20s, did a few triathlons in my 30s, and took up coaching american football as I headed into my 40s.
We are lucky to live in a part of the country that is great for walking and camping - the Lake District, the Peak District and the West Pennine Moors are all within a relatively short journey by car - we've hiked many miles with friends around all three over the last couple of decades.
Finally, For Now
This introductory blog hasn't told you very much at all, nor has it gone into much detail, but over the course of my next few posts hopefully I can give you more of a flavour of what I'm about, who I am, what motivates me, and why you should consider using me to write copy for you or proofread your writing.
For now, thank you for reading this far. I will post again very soon. In the meantime, please feel free to get in touch and leave any comments you like, even if it's just to say hello.
Wishing you all the best.
Keith.
